About 60 percent of Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. customers in Dickinson lost power Thursday morning.
The company’s “relay system tripped out,” taking three of the area’s five substations out of service, spokesman Mark Hanson said.
About 5,700 customers in the southern two-thirds of town lost power starting at 7:30 a.m. MDT, Hanson said. Power was restored within an hour as the powerfeed was shifted to come into town from a different direction.
“We have ruled out system load and substation power equipment as the cause,” Hanson said. “(The) system is reset. Personnel are still investigating what caused the relay system to trip.”
