Minot shatters annual record for precipitation

MINOT, N.D. — The amount of precipitation in the Minot area in 2013 might be a record that will be hard to top.

The final tally at the North Dakota State University research center on the south edge of the state’s fourth-largest city was 33.28 inches, shattering the 1975 record of 26.99 inches. The amount was nearly double the average annual precipitation in the region.

Center research specialist Jim Tarasenko says the region is in a long-term wet cycle, and no one knows how long it will last.
