DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – A Michigan company is expressing interest in building an oil refinery in Devils Lake, Mayor Dick Johnson confirmed.
“They have interest in us and we have interest in them,” he said, but a lot of things have to come together before a deal is struck, including how wastewater will be discharged.
American Energy Holdings told him it plans to build a $275 million refinery with a capacity of 20,000 barrels per day and would employ 50 to 100. It would produce diesel and aviation fuel.
That’s about a third of the capacity of the Tesoro refinery in Mandan and equal to two other refineries being built in western North Dakota.
Johnson said the company has an aggressive time frame, seeking to break ground this spring.
