If you’ve ever walked into the doors of Friendly Smiles Cosmetic Dentistry in Fargo, you know that the name “Friendly” isn’t just a random word chosen to make it sound like going to the dentist is going to be a great experience. You know, from the greeting at the reception area to the moment you wave goodbye, that this place really does have a friendly atmosphere, created by Dr. Brenda Barfield.
Dr. Barfield’s exuberant personality is magnified by the carefully-chosen staff who assists her. One of those friendly faces is Caitlin Posch. Caitlin graduated from M State, Moorhead in 2011 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She’s worked as a part of the Friendly Smiles team since October 2012.
“It is very rewarding being able to provide patients with a relaxing, pain-free, and educational experience at our office,” Posch says. And her clients typically agree. Friendly Smiles offers the kind of experience that puts people at ease, and trepidation about going to the dentist is easier with hygienists like Caitlin on staff.
The Team Rallies
The friendly smiles in the dental office proved to be far beyond superficial when Caitlin was diagnosed in January with a grade 4 spinal cord astrocytoma, a malignant incurable tumor. Her neurosurgeon was unable to completely remove it, and Caitlin told us that she has now completed radiation and is continuing with chemotherapy now.
“My initial post-radiation scan indicates I am stable for now, but I’ll know more and have a better idea at my 2-month scan in July,” said Caitlin.
Despite the difficulty of the diagnosis and treatment, Caitlin continues to keep positive.
“Throughout this devastating and life-altering tragedy, Caitlin’s positive spirit continues to radiate like a ray of light,” said Caitlin’s cousin Heidi Nammour. “She has become an inspiration for all those who are touched by her presence.”
In support of Caitlin, her friends, family, and work family are sponsoring a fundraiser to help with the costs associated with her treatment. The support of those around her will help nurture her back to health so she can continue to do the things she loves, such as cooking and spending time at the lake with her husband, Ryan.
The Caitlin Posch FUNraiser will be held June 11, 2017 from 4-8 P.M. at Rustic Oaks, south of Moorhead. The address is 12155 3rd Street South, Moorhead. Tickets are $20 at the door, and kids are free.
The benefit includes an Italian buffet, cash bar, silent auction, raffles, games, and dancing. Entertainment will be provided by Dave Harmon of Harmon Entertainment.
Come out and support one of Fargo’s very own, and have fun while you do it. The Dakota Medical Foundation Lend A Hand program will provide up to $5,000 in matching funds.
