LOS ANGELES (AP) — Health officials concerned that protocols are not being followed ordered Southern California Gas Co. to stop cleaning homes of residents forced to leave because of a gas leak near their Los Angeles neighborhood.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health ordered the halt Sunday after concluding the utility’s contractor was not properly trained or equipped to carry out the cleanup in Porter Ranch.
The cleaning program was ordered by a judge Friday.
The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/1s4ydAJ) health officials will meet Monday with utility representatives to discuss how to make sure proper protocols are followed. Gas company officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
Some 8,000 families moved out of their San Fernando Valley homes after the October gas well blowout at the Aliso Canyon storage facility.
