Oil City clerk arrested on theft charge

SHREVEPORT, La. — A town clerk for Oil City has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $24,000.

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator, in a news release, said 44-year-old Melissa Doise, of Oil City, was booked with felony theft for embezzling cash and manipulating accounting records in an effort to conceal the alleged crime.

Authorities say Doise is accused of altering accounting records and disposing of deposit slips to cover up the theft. Sheriff’s Detective Yomeka Evans said the alleged theft occurred between January 2013 and August.

Doise surrendered at the Caddo Correctional Center last week. Bond was set at $35,000.

It was unknown Monday whether Evans had an attorney who could comment on the case.
