Sempra Energy is engaged in what the Houston Business Journal called a “hiring spree” last week as the company moved its headquarters of its division Sempra U.S. Gas & Power from Greenville, South Carolina to Houston.
“We believe the relocation of our Greenville employees to Houston will better position the company to capture new market opportunities,” Sempra spokesperson Paty Ortega told the Business Journal. “Over the past two years, Sempra U.S. Gas & Power has increased its focus on the development of large natural gas midstream infrastructure projects.”
The company is hiring throughout several of its divisions in Houston locations:
Sempra U.S. Gas & Power: This Sempra division, which focuses on natural gas operations, commercial development and supportive functions hosts a 22-person workforce in Houston, including 12 employees who relocated from Greenville.
Sempra LNG: This division is looking to add six new employees to its 35-person workforce. Candidates include engineers, consultants, and commercial development specialists.
Cameron LNG: This internationally-owned Sempra division plans to hire 22 new employees—particularly engineers, consultants and commercial developers. The company operates under joint ownership between ENGIE of Paris and Mitsui & Japan LNG Investment LLC.
Sempra Energy as a whole hired 50 new employees this year and plans to hire 29 more. The company experienced impressive growth in 2014, when it hired 72 new employees. The Business Journal mainly attributes the Sempra’s workforce growth to its LNG liquefaction projects in Cameron Parish, Louisiana and Port Arthur, Texas.
