In Aubrey McClendon’s view, the Utica shale is “the best gas rock in the U.S.”

Speaking Thursday at the Dallas Energy Conference, the pioneering wildcatter widely credited with discovering the potential of the Marcellus shale proclaimed his excitement regarding America’s fastest-growing energy source, Columbus Business First reports. McClendon’s new company, American Energy Partners, has invested over $10 billion in natural gas drilling, most of which in concentrated in Ohio’s Utica shale region.

McClendon also told attendees that his company continued to grow, and urged any skilled shale workers who were unhappy with their positions to get in contact with his company for a better job.

The Utica shale has seen a rapid hike in development in the past couple of months following close geological surveys that raised estimated gas recovery totals. The thousandth Utica well was recently drilled in Ohio, and the Energy Information Administration announced it would begin to list the area in its monthly report of the country’s top-producing regions.

Production could rise even higher following Royal Dutch Shell’s revelation it had discovered fruitful gas deposits in Pennsylvania’s Utica region. Previously, development had been limited mostly to Ohio.
