Big money flows through deals made within the energy industry and there is no better place than Texas to look for evidence. The energy industry accounted for seven of the state’s 10 largest mergers and acquisitions in the first half of this year, according to data from research firm Mergermarket. The San Antonio Business Journal reported that of the 27 Texas deals valued at over $1 billion, 12 involved energy companies.
Chad Watt, the natural resource editor for Mergermarket, talked with the Business Journal about the deals heavily concentrated in the Eagle Ford Texas area. He noted that some companies are cashing out while others are working to expand their holdings on production.
“The shale boom has happened in Texas, and what we’re seeing now is companies focusing on deals that drive efficiency,” Watt says.
