Time-lapse map shows fracking history

Zach Koppang | Shale Plays Media

Drillinginfo.com has created a time-lapse map of unconventional oil and gas development. The map spans 15 years and shows development in 11 American shale plays.

The fracking craze begins near Fort Worth, Texas and quickly explodes into other areas of Texas as well as New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado. Development of the Bakken started out slow in 2005 but has since turned into a rolling boil of development.

Development in the Marcellus shale play is speckled across the region, continuing to shift and expand. The Eagle Ford play makes a fashionably late appearance in 2010 and has become one of the leaders in production.

The wells on the map are identified by which reservoir is being targeted. Visit DrillingInfo.com to view the map.
