Holy moly! Rig count up again! Texas gains zero

The Baker Hughes North American Rig Count continues to climb. This week, the US total climbed by 12 total rigs to 768. Two offshore rigs were added, while 9 land rigs and one in inland waters. Eight of the new rigs are exploring for oil while 5 of the additions are exploring for gas.

Despite the largest US oil discovery in 30 years, the rig count in Alaska dropped by 3. New Mexico also lost one rig. Gains this week include 5 in Louisiana, 3 in Oklahoma and Colorado, 2 in Wyoming and Ohio, and 1 in California. In a tiny surprise, Texas gained no new rigs this week.

By basin, the DJ-Niobrara basin gained the greatest number of rigs, with 4. The Haynesville and Utica each gained 2. The Permian only increased by one rig this week. The Eagle Ford and Cana-Woodford each lost one rig, while the Granite Wash dropped by 2.
