PORT ALLEN, La. (AP) — Refinery officials say two contractors were taken to a hospital after they were injured while working near storage tanks at the facility in Port Allen.
A spokesman for Placid Refining Company LLC says the workers were injured Wednesday. Rafael Bermudez says he had no details about the injuries. He said he had no details about how they were injured, though he said they may have been exposed to gas which did not come from the refinery.
Placid Refining says no substances were released from its facility or the tanks. Bermudez says the refinery remained open.
Placid says the incident is under investigation.
About 75,000 barrels of crude oil a day are refined at the facility, which sits across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge.
