The Marcellus Shale formation in Pennsylvania saw quite a bit of action over the last week. Unfortunately, even though permits are up, one company lost a worker in a traumatic accident.
Last Tuesday morning, a tragic bulldozer accident took the life of a pipeline worker in Union Township, in northern Pennsylvania. Ricky Dettman, 54 and a resident of Nebraska, was operating the machine on steep grade when the dozer rolled back down the hill. The bulldozer rolled several times before landing right side up at the bottom of the hill. Dettman was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time, Dettman was a part of a construction crew that was working on a natural gas pipeline being developed by Energy Transfer Partners. The pipeline will transport natural gas from the Utica Shale formation all over the U.S.
An investigation on Dettman’s tragic accident is being conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
