WISE 2015 event at LSU to highlight female engineers

To honor Women’s History Month and shine a spotlight on future female engineers, Louisiana State University’s College of Engineering, including the Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering, will be hosting a special event on Wednesday, March 11. Starting at 6:30 p.m., female engineering students, faculty and staff, alumni and professionals will be gathered at the Cotillion Ballroom in LSU’s Student Union to network while discussing appropriate attire for various professional atmospheres.

The event, dubbed Women Impacting Style in Engineering (WISE), will feature networking time, dinner and a style show. According to the event’s description, “The style show will shine a new light on business styles for young women in engineering, computer science, and construction management at LSU.” With student lifestyles and budgets in mind, WISE 2015 will emphasize who to put your best foot forward in professional, business casual and casual attire.

WISE 2015 was organized by the LSU College of Engineering Diversity Programs and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The College of Engineering hopes to boost participation and graduation by female and minority students, creating a diverse group of engineering professionals in today’s generation. SWE is a non-profit educational organization centered on the idea of encouraging and empowering women to succeed in a field they have traditionally been largely barred from. The organization uses training, development programs, networking events, scholarships, outreach and advocacy activities to push women to achieve in engineering programs and careers.

The upcoming event was also sponsored by Halliburton, which has received awards for its efforts to maintain a diverse staff. Woman Engineer Magazine named the company “Best Place to Work for Women Engineers” in 2011 and 2012. Halliburton also received the Excellence in Diversity Award from Diversity Journal in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Although registration for WISE 2015 is closed, more information about the event can be found by clicking here.
