Hoeven: Keystone backers will find way to approve pipeline

BISMARCK, N.D. — Republican U.S. Sen. John Hoeven says a failed attempt to override the president’s veto of the Keystone XL pipeline will not deter him from pushing to get the project approved.

The Senate voted 62-37 Wednesday to override President Barack Obama’s veto of the bill. Proponents needed a two-thirds majority.

Hoeven, the chief sponsor, says pipeline supporters didn’t win the battle Wednesday but will “win the war” because they will find another bill to which they can attach the pipeline project.

Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says the failure to override the veto is clear evidence that more work remains to gather additional support for the project. She says in the last session she successfully recruited 10 Democrats to support the bill and will continue to try and get more on board.

  1. Who does Hoeven represent the citizen of ND and the US or Canada?
ND and the Bakken area need for a pipeline will be filled by the ‘Energy Transfer’ direct to Iowa pipeline in process which would be in place by the end of 2016, well before the K-XL could be finished and connected to the Bakken area. Bakken light crude does not need to be routed to the heavy crude refinery on the Tx coast. And an increased delivery into the US system would decrease imports from Canada.
With China investment of over $60 Bn it is rather apparent that the K-XL is nothing but an export scheme for Canada to deliver export. Canada has no pipeline to a Canada port. The addition of Canada crude would only increase the global glut delaying the recovery of the US oil industry

  2. well, Mr Hoeven seems the repubicrats are right on track to kow-tow to the obama way of doing things and will cave at every opportunity that arises.

  3. You are on track. Any oil coming to the USA is good for us and Canada, a true friend. Sovereignty in this hemisphere is essential!

  4. Read a nice article about mixing Canada and Bakkin oil is an improvement to both.
