Utica well activity

The Utica shale has been a booming shale and drilling is still going strong. During the week of December 27, 50 rigs were operating in the Utica and five horizontal drilling permits were issued.

Although oil prices have been on a down hill slide and many companies across the nation have reported cut backs, those working in the Utica are still going strong, including Southwestern Energy and Deep Well Services. Both companies have recently announced plans to expand in the Utica shale. Deep Well Services plans on expanding its equipment fleet and payroll, while Southwestern Energy has signed a purchase agreement with Statoil for 20 percent of the company’s gas assets.
