Burisma Holdings, the largest independent gas producer in Ukraine, has hired R. Hunter Biden to be on its board of directors. He will be in charge of Burisma’s legal team, used as support in their international affairs.
The chairman of the Board of Directors of Burisma Holdings stated “The Company’s strategy is aimed at the strongest concentration of professional staff and the introduction of the best corporate practices, and we’re delighted that Mr.Biden is joining us to help us achieve these goals.”
Hunter is the youngest son of the vice president of The United States. He is a council to Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP which is a large national New York law firm that serves on many high profile cases. Hunter is also a professor at Georgetown in their Foreign Service Master’s program.
Burisma was founded in 2002 and has been growing rapidly since its beginning. They are dedicated to applying cutting edge technology in Ukraine, and produced 11,600 barrels of oil in 2013. Their fields are located in Ukraine’s three largest natural gas producing regions including the Dnieper-Donets, the Carpathian basin, and the Crimean basin. All of their wells are closely located and connected to major Ukrainian gas lines.
Biden stated, in a release by Burisma “As a new member of the Board, I believe that my assistance in consulting the company on matters of transparency, corporate governance and responsibility, international expansion and other priorities will contribute to the economy and benefit the people of Ukraine.”
In a statement to Business Insider, Kendra Barkoff, a spokesperson for Joe Biden said “Hunter Biden is a private citizen and lawyer. The Vice President does not endorse any particular company and has no involvement with this company.”
Despite this statement, Joe Biden has been active in attempting to solve the Ukrainian Crisis. He recently planned a visit to Romania to occur in the coming weeks, citing that the crisis in Ukraine would be on his itinerary.
